Traveling preparations can sometimes be a bit stressful. After deciding a place to go, taking the time to determine where to stay can be difficult if you don’t know what the offer is. Some people leave that work to a travel agency, as I often did in the past, to be honest.
However, leaving to others the decision about where you are going to spend a few days of rest or, even more important (and this was my case once), explaining to a travel agent that you need a hotel that is near or easily accessible to the center of an orienteering event is sometimes like talking to a brick wall! Believe me because I’ve been there!
That was when I decided to take into my own hands to deal with all the arrangements about my travels. This was some years ago. Being kind of new to this I came across hotels.com and literally it opened a whole world of hotels, resorts, boarding houses, lodges, hostels (though I have to say those are not my thing…) right at my fingertips! And a lot more options than those given to me by any travel agent.
Since then, hotels.com is my first option for searching my next stay or the one 10 months from now. You just type in the dates, number of people in your party (adults and children), how many rooms you’ll need (for a larger group) and voilá, a list of options from here to the moon!
You can narrow down the results with a ton of options, but the ones I use the most are free breakfast, free wifi, free parking (if I’m renting a car) and free cancelation. Those three or four for me are a must. After that, I still narrow down a bit by guest rating which includes not only ratings from hotels.com customers but also from Tripadvisor.
After that it’s just pick and choose, considering location that suits me best, price (obviously) and comments from previous guests, and I have to say that comments about breakfast are what I look for the most… it’s my favorite meal, after all. 😊
You can then manage all your bookings through their site, can even make two or three different reservations on the same dates. I sometimes do this when I’m not sure which hotel I will stay and decide later, canceling the ones I dismissed (and that’s where free cancelation is important).
If you haven’t used it yet, or even if you already have, use the links on this post to take care of you next stay. Watch out for frequent deals that they have, some with high discount on regular prices.
